Femininity. Softness. Humility. Submission. Purity. Obedience.

When you hear these words spoken in reference to women, what comes to your mind? Do you think of the Blessed Virgin Mary as she willingly chose to become the Mother of Jesus, or picture scenes out of a Jane Austen novel? Or do these words evoke a knee-jerk reaction of fear, anger and resistance? Unfortunately, feminism has sold women the lie that true freedom and empowerment lie in being promiscuous, having abortions, being able to do whatever they want with impunity, climbing the corporate ladder, and not being tied down by a husband and children.

Any time that these ideas are challenged, feminists shout the challengers down as being anti-woman and stir up fear that those who support traditional values want to see women treated as second-class citizens with no rights at all. This of course could not be further from the truth, but sadly this view has taken hold within the last several decades and it still has a grip on women today. As a result, women have become divorced from their God-given natures. Women have been told for decades to prioritize their education, careers, and living up their young adult years. The result of this line of thinking has been catastrophic for society. Marriage and birth rates have significantly declined while the number of people (particularly women) on antidepressant and anti-anxiety drugs have skyrocketed. Despite having so many opportunities open to them, women are more miserable and unhappy than they ever have been. What we as women need more than ever is to return to God’s beautiful design for us and to become the women He calls us to be. We need to return to being feminine.

I have seen firsthand the destruction that feminism has wrought on our society, and though I have never been a feminist myself, I have come to realize that I had unknowingly bought into some of its subtler points. To all of the women who are reading this, just know that I am still navigating what it means to be a traditional, Catholic, feminine woman in this modern world. I don’t pretend to have all of the answers or everything figured out. Seeing the complete devastation that has been left by feminism on women, men and children, though, has stirred something in my heart and I wanted to share these musings with others, especially with women. I am not sharing any of this to shame anyone, but if you find that you have knowingly or unknowingly bought into the feminist propaganda, I just invite you to keep an open mind.

Last but certainly not least, I dedicate this blog to the perfect model of femininity, the Blessed Virgin Mary. As I have striven to become a more feminine woman myself, especially within the last year or two, I have developed a deep devotion to Mary. She is the pinnacle of what it means to be a true, God-centered, feminine woman, and for any woman who is trying to find out and become who God created her to be, having a strong devotion to His mother is a great way to start. ❤
